Any driver who has hunted for a legal place to shut down on I-75 after dark knows this corridor's problem. FDOT just eased it a little, opening the expanded rest-area truck parking near Ocala two months early.
The expansion adds dozens of marked spaces with lighting. It doesn't solve the statewide shortage — FDOT's own counts say Florida needs thousands more — but on this stretch it turns a nightly scramble into a reasonable bet.
More Marion and Sumter County sites are in the program queue, the department says.
